Planning - Narration over my trailer

The Woman in Black

Over the trailer for 'The Woman in Black' a small poem is narrated, revealing a short version of what the film is going to be like:

During afternoon tea there's a shift in the air,
A bone trembling chill that tells you she's there

There are those who believe that the whole town in cursed
But the house in the marsh, is by far the worst

What she wants is unknown, but she always comes back
The specter of darkness, the woman in black.

Again I really like the idea of this, as it reveals a little bit of what the film is going to be about but not giving away any of the story line. Once I have finished putting my trailer together I may try and write a poem to go over the top of the trailer and make the little girl who dies in film say it to make the whole trailer seem a lot scarier.

The Lovely Bones

The trailer starts showing the girl happy with her family and friends before she died, with her narrating:

"My name is Salmon, like the fish. First name, Suzie. I was 14 years old, when I was murdered. On December 6th, 1973"

It then goes on showing what her family do once they find out that she has been murdered but there is no evidence on anyone who the murderer could be. Her family get 'messages' from Suzie, from a different 'world' trying to tell her family who killed her and get justice for her death. She then narrates:

"I wasn't gone, I was alive in my own perfect world. But in my heart, I knew it wasn't perfect. My murderer still haunts me.
My father had the pieces, but he couldn't make them fit. I waited for justice. Justice did not come.
Don't be afraid"

Again I like this idea a lot, as it makes the whole trailer seem a lot scarier. I would use the little girl who gets killer to narrate over the top. I will try and think of something similar that could go over the trailer once I have finished.

An unexpected death causes two bestfriends to be separated forever. But what lies ahead for the girl who survived? Do you believe in ghosts?

Research - 'The Lovely Bones'

'The Lovely Bones' is a similar to my idea in the way that the girl who has died, comes back and tries to give her family messages about who had killed her because the killer is unknown. My idea of the young girl being killed is going to come back and haunt her friend as she could have saved her from her death but didn't.

Research

As I am doing a trailer about poltergeists I thought it would be a good idea to use a music box which young girls love but could also be seen as quite creepy too to give that scary feel to the trailer. Here are a few clips which I may use in my trailer

Research - The Woman In Black Trailer

'The Woman in Black' trailer is where I have got the idea of using a music box for my trailer. As the main characters of my film are two young girls the use of using a music box is quite good as this is what young girls would keep their jewellery in and usually have a little ballerina in it. The trailer uses quite short quick shots to make the trailer seem scary allowing the audience see more of what is in the film. In the space of 1.44 seconds there are around 60 different shots to create the upbeat scary trailer.

Planning - Poltergeist Trailer - Ideas

  • Things being moved around.
  • Slamming of cupboards and doors
  • Leaving messages
  • Music box playing
  • Young girl narrating whats happening
  • Young girl singing a nursery rhythm
  • Focus on small detail of something that someone young would enjoy
