Research - The Lovely Bones - Poster Textual Analysis

TEASER POSTER - This is because it contains basic information, but does not reveal much about the film and introduces the main characters to the audience

Planning - Lesson - 27th Novemeber

Today I was planning what I was going to have as my narration. I wrote out the narration from 'The Woman in Black' and 'The Lovely Bones' to give me some ideas to what I could have over my trailer. I was having trouble with what I was going to have the young girl say as I have not completed my trailer, so I am going to get some more filming done this weekend and hopefully finish my trailer as soon as possible so I can put the narration over the top. I was also having trouble thinking whether I should have the young girl who has been killed doing the narration or the girl who is being haunted doing the narration. I am going to write two scripts for both circumstances and then decide which one would fit in better with the completed trailer.

CHARACTER POSTER - As it does not reveal any of the storyline to the audience but shows features of the main character

Planning - Textual Analyses of Posters - Ancillary Task

These are the film posters will be the posters that I will be analysing for my ancillary tasks. I have selected these three films because I previously analysed them for my trailer and all contain conventions of a horror film that I will be using in both my trailer and poster.

Research - Target Audience Feedback Of Trailer So Far

Katy Bailey:

"It's good, the wind blowing over the titles introduces the genre early and you have used good shots. The music is spooky and childish to fit the narrative and it's good to go black at the end. I think it need to have a build up of shots or music or something afterwards to add the suspense that occurs in a horror trailer."

Charlie Crow:
"It's a good start, with good acting and good switching of scenes. However, more of the actual story line should be involved for the viewer to develop a better understanding of the film."

Harrison Payne:

"I enjoy the use of music and believe it fits to the genre of film perfectly. I think that the acting is good and the range of camera angles and shots really add to the mysterious atmosphere. However to improve i think you would need to explore further into the story of the film, so that the audience can interact more with what they are watching."

Research - Institutional Context

Finance, Distribution, Promotion and Consumption

My film will be financed by 20th Century Fox, a News Corporation company. This is because they are a well known film production company and have produced a variety of different films including ones of the same genre and target audience, such as 'Hide and Seek'. 20th Century Fox is one of the six major American film companies as of 2011, so this would be a reliable company to produce and finance my film. One of 20th Century Fox's most popular film productions is 'Star Wars' and this is a very well know major film sequel known by millions of people all over the world. The well known company will be able to gain the audience that I will want for the production and achieve blanket distribution around the world.

I hope for my film to be bought in shops or rented out many times as it has been well promoted and has been distributed well by the chosen company. 20th Century Fox make this happen as they have connections all over the world in places such as Japan, Mexico, Australia and the UK. This enhances the choice of having 20th Century Fox as my promotors and distributors of my film.

I will use Facebook and Twitter to promote my film by creating Facebook pages and Twitter accounts that will include interesting facts and up to date news about the upcoming film. This will create a wider audience which would be made available to everyone who has access to the social networking sites. I will also make advertisements on websites to promote the film and posters in town centres making it aware to the public.

As blanket distribution will be used the audience is going to be quite varied. As it is going to be a horror film, it can be aimed at anyone who enjoys watching horror films. The age certificate is going to be a 15, as it would contain some scary scenes which would not be appropriate for a child younger than the age of 15.

Planning - Shots of Editing

These are shots of what I have edited in todays lesson. This is all quick paced so it looks like the young girl has been run over by the car.

Planning - Trailer So Far

This is what my trailer looks like so far. I have not finished editing yet, and I will probably end up changing what I have done so far.
